HENDERSON, Nev. — Kirk Cousins was formally introduced as the new starting quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday, signaling the franchise’s latest attempt to stabilize its offense with a proven veteran presence.

Speaking at the team’s practice facility, Cousins said he was drawn to Las Vegas by the organization’s vision and familiarity with the coaching staff, including head coach Klint Kubiak, with whom he previously worked during his time in Minnesota. He expressed confidence in the roster and the direction of the franchise, noting he “feel[s] really good about this group and about the chance to play here.”

The 38-year-old quarterback arrives after signing a reported five-year deal worth up to $172 million, though the structure effectively makes it a shorter-term commitment as the Raiders evaluate their long-term plans at the position.

Cousins emphasized a team-first mindset during his introductory news conference, saying he expects competition for the starting job and believes “the best quarterback should play,” even as the Raiders are widely expected to target a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

That dynamic could position Cousins as both a starter and mentor, particularly if Las Vegas selects a young quarterback to develop behind him. Early signs of that role are already evident, with Cousins acknowledging conversations and film study with a potential rookie addition.

Despite entering the later stages of his career, Cousins brings significant experience and production. Over 14 NFL seasons, he has thrown for more than 44,000 yards with nearly 300 touchdown passes, earning four Pro Bowl selections along the way.

The Raiders’ decision to sign Cousins follows his release from the Atlanta Falcons earlier this offseason and reflects a short-term strategy to remain competitive while potentially grooming a quarterback of the future.

For Cousins, the move represents a fresh start — and an opportunity to lead.

“This is the perfect next chapter,” he said, as the Raiders opened offseason workouts and officially welcomed their new quarterback to Las Vegas.
