John E. Gibson graduated from California St. University, Fullerton, and kicked off his professional career as a sports journalist at The Orange County Register after being an intern and then a stringer there. He later moved on to The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin as a baseball writer. Before a year had gone by, John decided to broaden his horizons with an extended stay in Japan, but the planned one-year visit became a 20-plus-year journey during which he became fluent in Japanese.
He started his own local newspaper in Nagoya, Japan, and his success there earned him a call-up to Japan’s top English-language newspaper, The Daily Yomiuri / The Japan News, for which he covered Nippon Professional Baseball from 2005 to 2024. John started his own podcast in 2011 and was its creator, producer, host and editor for 14 seasons. John currently works as a Japanese-English interpreter. His wife is Japanese and they were wed in Hawaii and he has family in Southern California and Las Vegas.
